Four Hills Tournament: Innsbruck without a violinist – this is how the DSV star reacts
Halftime at the Four Hills Tournament 2023. The German stations in Oberstdorf and Garmisch-Partenkirchen are ticked off, now it’s off to Austria. In Innsbruck, the pendulum for overall victory could swing further in the direction of Halvor Egner Granerud.
The German eagles have no chance of overall victory in the Four Hills Tournament. The best-placed Karl Geiger and Andreas Wellinger have a too big forward. But that’s exactly why at least one small miracle could happen.
Four Hills Tournament in the live ticker
Without pressure, something might work for the German ski jumpers at the Four Hills Tournament in Innsbruck. How are Geiger and Co. doing and is Granerud continuing its successful run? You can get all information about the 71st Four Hills Tournament here in our live ticker.
11:52 a.m.: The situation around overall leader Halvor Egnar Granerud is also interesting. Does he keep his chance of the Grand Slam, i.e. victory in all four individual competitions? He was only 14th in qualifying.
10.07 a.m.: Geiger himself reacted completely disillusioned after the failed qualifying jump. “I can’t really put it into words yet. That’s tough. I didn’t get the jump right at all. That was botch.”
Wednesday, 9 a.m.: Good morning from Innsbruck. Today is the third competition of the 71st tour. And the shock surrounding Karl Geiger has still not been digested.
3:01 p.m.: And this is what the German duels look like tomorrow:
- Stephan Leyhe – Domen Prevc
- Markus Eisenbichler and Gregor Deschwanden
- Andreas WellingerYukiya Sato
- Philipp Raimund – Dean Decker
- Constantin Schmid-Michael Hayboeck
- Pius Paschke-Stefan Kraft
2:41 p.m.: After all, the remaining six Germans will all be there tomorrow. Best DSV-Adler was Philipp Raimund in eleventh. He has to play against Decker Dean from the USA tomorrow. A feasible duel in its form.
2:33 p.m.: Kubacki isn’t done with touring hopes yet! The Pole is the last to jump to the very front. He wins the qualification ahead of his compatriot Stoch. The overall leader, Granerud, only ended up in 13th place.
But the biggest hammer is probably Karl Geiger. The German hopeful fails in the qualification. A single place is missing for him to be there tomorrow. what a drama
2.30 p.m.: Hopes are fading. Fettner, Zyla and Kraft all make it ahead of him. And now come Granerud, Lanisek and Kubacki.
2:23 p.m.: Drama about violinists. He brings together only 108 meters. This even shakes the qualification. Currently he is only 45. At least one of the deep jumpers has to stay behind him. Geiger’s face when the result comes speaks volumes. Dumbfounded, he shakes his head.
2:19 p.m.: Now the last two Germans are coming with Wellinger and Geiger. Wellinger shows a safe, but not a long jump to 118 meters. If we want to move up a little more in the overall standings, tomorrow has to be better.
2:15 p.m.: What a sentence by Kamil Stoch! 126 meters is the clear best distance so far. The Poles are currently in impressive form.
2:12 p.m.: The next German, the next qualification. But Pius Paschke is clearly struggling with problems in the air. His 111 meters should give him a tough duel tomorrow.
2:10 p.m.: Now it becomes a name. Prevc, Forfang, Zajc and Kobayashi are allowed to go down one after the other. And now the records are tumbling too. Norwegian Forfang is currently in the lead with 133.6 points.
2:06 p.m.: “Eisi” sails down the slope with a serious expression. The jump is easily enough for the qualification. Second place on points behind Raimund. That should give you some confidence.
2:05 p.m.: Wasek, Tande, Nakamura – none of them get a clean jumping state here. Now comes the German problem child Markus Eisenbichler.
2:01 p.m.: Bitter jump for Schmid. He only brings together 111 meters. That’s enough for the main competition tomorrow, but it’s a big disappointment.
1:59 p.m.: Stephan Leyhe also comes down well and takes second place behind his teammate. Qualification is certain, but the German doesn’t seem really happy. After Philipp Aschenwald comes Constantin Schmid.
1:55 p.m.: And the youngster continues his run. 121.5 meters means the best value for the moment. He already has the qualification in the bag. Raimund can play again tomorrow.
1:52 p.m.: In the light rain, Philipp Raimund is about to jump. Two more jumpers are going down the hill ahead of him…
1:45 p.m.: Now it’s at least towards the 120 meters. Artti Aigro from Estonia jumps to 117 and takes the lead for the time being. In terms of wind, there are currently point deductions throughout, i.e. there is an upwind.
1:38 p.m.: The jump speed is high. The first ten jumpers are already down. So far we haven’t seen large areas.
1.30 p.m.: The first jumper opens the qualification. It’s the Japanese Sato. His 107 meters will hardly be the benchmark today.
1:06 p.m.: It’s starting soon. A total of seven Germans jump off the hill again today. The first DSV eagle will be Philipp Raimund as 29th.
11:17 a.m.: Maybe things are going better for the Germans in Innsbruck. Without the pressure, we might be able to do better today and tomorrow. In addition to Geiger and Wellinger, the German focus is primarily on newcomer Phillip Raimund.
10.12 a.m.: And while we’re on the subject: Here’s the current status of the overall rating:
1. Halvor Egner Granerud (Norway) 616.1 pts.
2. Dawid Kubacki (Poland) 589.3
3. Piotr Zyla (Poland) 576.0
4. Anze Lanisek (Slovenia) 564.7
5. Karl Geiger (Oberstdorf) 558.5
6. Andreas Wellinger (Ruhpolding) 558.3
7. Daniel Tschofenig (Austria) 554.2
8. Kamil Stoch (Poland) 548.8
9. Lovro Kos (Slovenia) 541.7
10. Stefan Kraft (Austria) 541.5
14. Philipp Raimund (Oberstdorf) 511.9
18. Stephan Leyhe (Willingen) 496.3
23. Constantin Schmid (Oberaudorf) 466.1
28. Pius Paschke (Kiefersfelden) 339.2
36. Felix Hoffmann (Suhl) 227.1
37. Markus Eisenbichler (Siegsdorf) 224.2
50. Martin Hamann (Aue) 105.0
55. Luca Roth (Messtetten) 89.1
9.41 a.m.: A look at the overall result shows that the German Eagles once again have no chance. Karl Geiger is currently fifth as the best German – but already has 57 points on Granerud.
