Comites applauds the Government’s amendment to the finance law
Comites San Marino applauds the Government’s amendment to the Finance Law which mandates the Congress of State to adopt by means of a delegated decree by 30 June 2023 legislation on citizenship that responds to the need for updating and simplification. It is appreciable – declares the president of Comites San Marino Alessandro Amadei – the Government’s intention to proceed with the reform of the citizenship law through a simplified and accelerated legislative process, so that action can be taken as soon as possible on a matter, on which a broad debate has been developing for some time and on which various political forces have expressed their willingness to accept the request of Comites San Marino to eliminate from the current legislation the renunciation of citizenship of origin, as a condition for being naturalized in San Marino, at least for what has emerged from the organizational meetings so far – continues Amadei. In this regard, already in November 2021, the Secretariat of State for Internal Affairs presented a bill which contemplates the elimination of the obligation to renounce the citizenship of origin for those who aspire to be naturalized citizens of San Marino, evaluating the opportunity to subordinate the obtainment of San Marino citizenship to a specific test of knowledge of the Italian language, of the history and of the institutions of the Republic of San Marino. The president of Comites San Marino Alessandro Amadei hopes that the season of civil rights reforms inaugurated by the Government will continue with the modernization of the legislation on citizenship, responding to the new needs and new sensitivities of our community.
