OUTLOOK: Korchinski, Team Canada Defeat Stjernborg, Team Sweden
All five prospects faced each other for the final match of the preliminary round of the World Juniors tournament after Team Canada handed Team Sweden its first loss 5-1.
F Victor Stjernborg, Sweden
At the end of Sweden’s first loss, Stjernborg was named the best player of the game in Team Sweden according to the team’s votes. During the four games, the Swedish forward recorded one assist, two penalty minutes, minus-one and averaged around 14 minutes of ice time.
D Nolan Allan, Canada
The Canadian defender posted his second point of the tournament with an assist in the 5-1 victory. He finished the preliminary round with two points (1G, 1A), two penalty minutes, six shots on goal, a plus-five and 17 minutes of ice time.
F Colton Dach, Canada
Dach sustained an injury during the match and will miss the rest of the tournament. In his four games, two assists, five shots on goal, a plus-three and averaged close to 11 minutes of ice time.
D Ethan Del Mastro, Canada
The alternate recorded his second assist of the tournament for the second game in a row. In this year’s tournament, he added two assists, two penalty minutes, two shots on goal and over 18 minutes of playing time.
D Kevin Korchinski, Canada
Korchinski scored his first goal for Team Canada to secure his fifth and final goal in the victory. He improved to four points (1G, 3A), three shots on goal, plus-four and 13 minutes of ice time.
Both teams move into the quarter-final round with matches starting on Monday afternoon. Sweden starts at 10:00 CST against Finland and Canada starts at 17:30 CST the competition against Slovakia. The winners of these matches advance to the semi-finals, which begin on Wednesday.
