Last gondola missed: mountain rescue operation – salzburg.ORF.at
timeline
A ski tourer who missed the last gondola from the Kitzsteinhorn down into the valley near Kaprun (Pinzgau) triggered a mountain rescue operation on Friday evening. The man wanted to go from the Maiskogel to the Kitzsteinhorn, but over time miscalculated.
At around 4:40 p.m. on Friday, the police in Kaprun were informed that a 46-year-old German was stuck on the Kitzsteinhorn because he had missed the last lift. According to the piste rescue service, the man was off the marked slopes.
distance underestimated
After around two and a half hours, mountain rescuers and alpine police met the uninjured German. He told the emergency services that he had taken the gondola from the Kitzsteinhorn to the Maiskogel near Kaprun (around 1,600 meters above sea level – note) at noon. From there I wanted to go back to the Kitzsteinhorn glacier ski area on touring skis.
However, he underestimated the length of the ascent and did not make it to the cable car station on the Kitzsteinhorn in time. So he dialed 911. The 46-year-old was brought down unharmed.
