Portugal does good: new handicraft
“ONE kroh was founded in 2017, giving rise to a previous project that had started in 2012. From an early age, the desire to explore materials and techniques was the basis of all my work. Still as a student of Fine Arts, I decided to change course from Equipment Design to Sculpture precisely because of the exploration of materials and techniques. Textiles have always played a very important role in my career, as well as craft techniques. From realizing that crochet or embroidery still has a lot to offer, to the emotion of materials such as ceramics and textiles, there is a long way to go”, says Rita Teles Garcia, mentor, creator and responsible for Kroh.
“All the pieces are made by me and I always try to use raw materials produced in Portugal. In my creations I try to have a coherent relationship between artisanal techniques with a contemporary visual aspect. What distinguishes them the most is the fact that they combine several unlikely techniques, but at the same time have the desired contemporary look”, he continues.
What market is it aimed at? “To an entire audience interested in new crafts and art, an audience with environmental awareness and a sustainable lifestyle.”
