Tyson Fury keen to renew hostilities with retired rival
Tyson Fury has hinted at a surprise fight in 2023.
Although many expect Tyson Fury to face Oleksandr Usyk in 2023, the current WBC champion has hinted at the possibility of bringing David Price out of retirement.
The 2008 Olympian was a long-time rival of Fury in their early days in the professional ranks after the Liverpool man defeated Fury in an amateur contest in 2006.
Although both men followed similar career paths for an extended period, a meeting between the pair did not materialize.
After Price’s back-to-back losses to Tony Thompson in 2013, his path to a world title was severely blocked while Fury continued to push on and eventually became world champion in 2015.
Despite Price’s retirement from the sport in 2021, Fury still has fond memories of their rivalry and has pondered whether a potential fight is still possible.
“I wonder if it would still sell out a stadium if me and old David Price had a fight,” Fury said as he spoke at IFLTV Raw podcast.
“Even if he’s retired, Old Trafford or Anfield I think we sell out for the WBC World Heavyweight title. Or even if the WBC wouldn’t sanction it, we could do it for the North West UK title.”
“The rivalry was so great for so long, and he was the only British person to ever beat me, amateur or pro. I think it would sell out.”
