Suspended medical guard in San Marino, the concern of the mayors
No more emergency medical services for the San Marino garrison, in the municipality of Gadesco Pieve Delmona, to which many municipalities in the area belong, from Derovere to Gabbioneta Binanuova, from Persico Dosimo to Pieve San Giacomo. In short, a large area that will remain unguarded from 1 January, and which will therefore have to refer to the Cremona garrison, or to the one geolocally closest to the client. The cause of this situation, as stated in the letter sent to all the mayors concerned, is “the absence of doctors to be employed at this location despite the incessant search for professionals” carried out by Ats Val Padana, which is looking for a solution.
“This further overloads the territory. An essential intervention garrison is missing. There are danger profiles: sometimes the timeliness of intervention is essential for the well-being of the population. If a patient needs an immediate visit, the doctor’s response times will be extended”.
The timing, however, is uncertain, although Ats indicates the situation as temporary: “it is in the Italian way: when we say temporary we must perhaps imply a “definitive” because doctors cannot be created overnight”.
According to the mayor, the problem is long-standing and depends on wrong political choices made years ago: “In particular the fact of having a limited number of places in specialty schools, which are essential for those who want to start the profession. This creates a bottleneck that drastically reduces the chances of having new licensed doctors.” A state of affairs that is also manifested in the increasingly endemic shortage of family doctors. A programming, for Marelli, A programming that is not far-sighted with respect to the real needs of the population.
“In Lombardy, for example, a great deal has been invested in centers of excellence and much less in continuity and territorial assistance. As we have seen during the pandemic, that he should have taught us something… instead I am afraid that he has not taught anyone anything ”.
There is also concern on the part of the other mayors concerned, as highlighted by the mayor of Vescovato, Gianantonio Conti: “We are perplexed. It is not the first time that a similar situation has occurred this year. Even during the summer holidays the headquarters remained vacant, albeit for a limited period of time. The emergency medical service is an essential service. And although it is still covered by other neighboring offices, this closure represents an additional inconvenience for everyone, both for the user and for the professional, who perhaps has to go to visit patients far away at home. The situation is serious. and I also mentioned this to Letizia Moratti when she came to visit the area last week ”Conti concludes.
