Salzburg: That’s why the Zirkenlift operation on Dürrnberg had to be stopped
The zinc lifts on the Dürrnberg in Hallein had to stop operating after just one day on Saturday (December 24th).
Hallein – After just one day, the operation of the Zirkenlifte on the Dürrnberg in Hallein (state of Salzburg) had to be stopped again on Saturday (December 24). But had war happened? BGLand24.de has asked.
Rescue attempt “simply wasn’t possible”
“Heavy rain during the night and the onset of heat are the reason for this, the trail has been washed away,” says Andreas Klimitsch, Managing Director of the Zinkenlifte, which belongs to the city of Hallein. “We still tried to save the individual days between Christmas and Epiphany with our snow cannons, but it just wasn’t possible“.
Track at the tow lift just melted away
The chairlift from the valley station at 837 meters above sea level to the mountain station at 1330 meters above sea level is still there, as are two drag lifts. There is snow in the upper quarter of the Zinkenkogel, but the descent is green. There is still some snow in the lower area, artificially produced by eight snow cannons, but the track at the tow lift simply melted away over Christmaswith daytime temperatures around 10 degrees plus.
Kimitsch: “Of course it hurts a lot”
The lifts were in operation on Friday (December 23) for the first time this winter season, on Saturday (December 24) it was closed again due to lack of snow, “of course it hurts a lotbut for safety reasons we decided to stop operating the lift,” says Klimitsch.
