Hyundai will only sell electric cars
The Ioniq model really put Hyundai on the Norwegian map in 2016, and now the new electric car series, also called Ioniq, provides a unique investment here in Norway – namely exclusively electric cars.
Today, all the established car brands are betting on electric cars, but we will only get a few years back when this was not the case. Because it is new and strict emission targets that have forced the manufacturers to think anew, and more specifically about electrification.

One of the brands that was early on the ball was Hyundai, which back in 2016 was able to present a baby egg of a car model. The name was then also quite electrified ‒ Iq ‒ a combination of the words ion and uniqe.
Here, Hyundai went all out by offering this model both as a pure hybrid, a plug-in hybrid and an electric car. Thus, the electrified venture was in earnest.
Two years later, Hyundai was able to present its second electric car, and this time in the form of an SUV. It was the electric version of the Kona, and it quickly became clear to Hyundai Norway that electrified cars were the future.
In 2020, the Norwegian importer cut out all cars that were not rechargeable and electrified, while Hyundai centrally decided to focus on a completely new series of cars that were only electric cars.

That series was named Ioniq, and the first electric car in this series is called Ioniq 5 and has been a great success. It is Norway’s fifth most registered new car in 2022, and indirectly ensures that Hyundai Norway will now become an electric car importer.
Because with the Ioniq 6 on the horizon, Hyundai Norway is now dropping all non-electric cars from 2023.
– We have great faith in the model portfolio we already have, and now that we have launched the all-new Ioniq 6, the time has come to sell only all-electric cars in the Norwegian market, says Thomas Rosvold, Managing Director of Hyundai Motor Norway.
‒ The Ioniq 5 and Kona Electric have long since taken positions as some of the most popular cars in the market, and we are confident that our pure electric cars will bring us continued success in the future.

Although the new electric car models will be important, Hyundai does not intend to let the old models sail their own sea.
‒ Recently, we also got to see the first pictures of the next generation Kona Electric, and it is a model that will be both bigger, more stylish and more dynamic than before. In addition to a number of other innovations coming in the next few years, we are, in other words, rigged for an all-electric future, says Rosvold.

For Hyundai Norway, the decision to release non-electric cars does not mean very much, because they are already known as an electric car brand here at home and have an electric car share of 93 per cent. Hyundai Norway says that electric cars have accounted for over 90 percent of sales in Norway in recent years.
In total, the Korean brand has delivered 25,000 passenger cars in Norway in the period 2020-2022, of which 92 percent are fully electric.
In the future, therefore, sales will consist exclusively of electric cars, and here are pictures of one that will probably become a fairly common sight on Norwegian roads in the years to come – the Ioniq 6:
