The Austrian State Championships in speed skating will take place in Innsbruck from December 27th to 29th. to six Individual distances and in the team pursuit, the medals will be determined over the three days and for the men, young star Gabriel Odor (USCI Innsbruck) is the big hunted at the 1976 Olympic Ice Ring.
The young Tyrolean, who is already on the World Cup podium in the mass start this year and has set a new national record over 1,500 meters in the races in North America, will be at the start in all competitions. On Tuesday, with Ignaz Gschwentner (USCI Innsbruck) and Alexander Farthofer (SC Latella Wörgl), more than 500 strong internal competitors are waiting. Gschwentner is the current record holder over 500 meters and the fastest Austrian in history. Junior Farthofer underlined his good form before Christmas when he dominated the competition at the Tyrolean Championships. However, Odor and Gschwentner, who were also in action at the World Cup in Calgary at the same time, are still missing there.
Over the 5,000 meters, the smell is the big favorite and should confidently defend its title from the previous year over the twelve and a half laps. In the absence of Vanessa Herzog, the first 16-year-old Jeannine Rosner (USCI Innsbruck) is the first contender for gold over 500 meters for women. The fast junior can be rated highly in the sprint, but could also challenge the two U23 athletes Anna Petutschnigg (SC Latella Wörgl) and Anna Molnar (USCI Innsbruck) in the second competition over 3,000 meters.
On Wednesday, the 1,500 meters are on the agenda, as well as the 10,000 meters for men. On the longest distance, last year’s champion Odor has to deal with his predecessor, because the 2018 Olympic starter, Linus Heidegger (USCI Innsbruck), has entered for the 10,000 meters.
