After a very rainy Christmas and a mild Monday (26th), with cloudy skies, with some clear, irregular and scattered showers across the geography of Portugal mainland, all citizens are now eager to know the weather forecast for the last week of the year 2022and above all for the night of December 31st and into New Year’s Day (January 1), which goes to welcome to 2023🇧🇷
Tuesday (27) will be a day marked by anticyclonic ‘tranquility’ in our country, with mild daytime thermal environment in most of the mainland, cloudy periods, good sunny periods and some cold in the interior North and Center of the country🇧🇷 Low minimum temperatures are expected in these regions, especially in the cities of Bragança and the guardwith 5°C.
The possibility of precipitation is very low and if it occurs it will be considerably scarce and very dispersed. However, fog may be locally persistent on the Atlantic coast and in the valleys and mountains of the North and Center interior🇧🇷
What is expected from Wednesday, the 28th, in mainland Portugal?
The meteorological novelty from Wednesday (28) is related to the arrival of a new Atlantic front in mainland Portugal that will discharge locally strong and persistent rain, especially in Minho, Metropolitan Area of the harbor and Aveiro🇧🇷 It will reach weaker and more irregular in the remaining areas of the North and Center Region, being, in some points, practically residual. Again, a relatively low minimum temperature is expected, but a maximum with values still high for the season of the year in several parts of mainland Portugal🇧🇷 Fog may form in certain inland areas.
On Thursday (29), there may be a strengthening of the instability lines of this same front, which will leave more rain for practically the whole day in the North, Center, Lisbon and Tagus Valley and Alto Alentejo (Portalegre🇧🇷🇧🇷 This will also be the journey, according to the our most trusted model – the ECMWF – that a greater probability of rainfall is predicted, and, consequently, a greater meteorological and hydrological risk is foreseen. The circulation of wind from the south quadrant, or southwest, will blow moderately to strongto which it will be directly connected to arrival of rain in our country🇧🇷
So there will be risk of floods and flash floods, not only in areas with soils immensely saturated by the heavy rains of recent weeksas also in native areas and Where impermeability is high🇧🇷 South of the Tagus, it will only rain in some areas of Alentejo (mainly in the mountains – Portalegre and Serra de São Mamede), with periods of cloudiness or even clear skies expected in Baixo Alentejo, Litoral Alentejano and algarve🇧🇷
For Friday (30) a slight easing of rain is expected in most of mainland Portugal. Exception made to the districts of Viana do Castelo🇧🇷 braga🇧🇷 Real Village and Porto where it will still rain with some abundance and intensity next Friday (30)🇧🇷 The temperature will tend to rise from Friday.
The weather on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Eve
For Saturday (31), the last hours of 2022, but still with high intensity in the weather forecast, wet, mild and very rainy weather is expectedmainly in the northwest of mainland Portugal and also in the regions of Alto Tâmega, Douro, Aveiro and Coimbra, where precipitation may be locally heavy and persistent. Showers punctually transit and disperse in the rest of the country.
The rain may start to fall in the second half of the day on Saturday (31), intensifying immensely as the hours pass. At the moment a New Year’s night is expected with abundant rain, New Year’s Day (January 1) is expected to be very rainy as well🇧🇷
For Sunday (1), the first day of 2023, everything indicates that a new, very active Atlantic front will reach mainland Portugal, watering our country from north to south “with plenty of🇧🇷 Welcoming the New Year in our geography will be given with unusually high temperature for the time of yearwith values above 15 ºC and even close to 20 ºC in most of the country, except in the interior North and Center where the maximums in some places remain below 10 ºC or 15 ºC.
And in the Azores and Madeira?
numbers Azores the weather will be relatively mild, with transient showers, cloudy periods and open spells for most of the weekexcept in Friday (30) when it may rain abundantly and intensely, especially in the Central and Eastern Groups🇧🇷 Throughout the week, a minimum temperature of between 12ºC and 15ºC is expected in Thin tip and maximum temperature between 14ºC and 18ºC.
N/A Wood Very cloudy skies or light rain are expected over the New Year weekend, December 31st and January 1st. On the previous days, clear or cloudy skies are expected.🇧🇷 The maximum temperature, throughout the week, will fluctuate between 19 ºC and 21 ºC in Funchal and the minimum temperature between 15ºC and 18ºC.
