Krakow for Christmas and New Year – check what’s going on!
Walks, ice skating, an exhibition of nativity scenes, concerts of Christmas carols, performances or events in museums – Krakow offers a lot of attractions that can be an alternative to Christmas gluttony and spending lazy time on the couch!
Where to go for a walk?
Walking around Krakow, especially during the holiday season, is a lot of new holidays. In order to best encourage you to celebrate Christmas, the main square should be your destination. It is here that one of the most beautiful will take place Christmas markets in Europe. Ice skates and more
If walking alone is not enough for us, we can use other activities, such as ice rink in the Winter Zone at TAURON Arena Kraków. The slide created from the side of the Polish Pilots Park and will be open until February 12. – Thanks to cooperation with the Sports Infrastructure Board from December 1 to January 27 children and schoolchildren from Krakow can leave the ice rink free of charge (on weekdays from 9.00 a.m. to 4.00 p.m.). Admission will be upon presentation of a school ID. With the ice rink, you can also attend kindergarten, under the supervision of your parents. Other interested persons, at the same time, will collect tickets for the ice rink – benefit Katarzyna Fiedorowicz-Razmus, press spokesman of Arena Kraków SA.
The rink is also open at the Nowa Huta Cultural Center. – You can now sharpen your skates and remember the basic figures: pirouettes, jumps and attractive tip-overs. From morning to evening, writing and in a team, on your own or rented skates, with music and pleasant use. To the limit! – invites Magdalena Gajoch from the National Center for Culture.
On Boxing Day of Christmas, December 26 We invite all lovers of entertainment in the middle of winter to swimming in Zakrzówekat 9.00-12.00. Meeting point near the building of the Water Sports Center by the permanent reservoir.
What for the spirit?
- December 24-26. A living nativity scene at the Franciscans is one of Krakow’s Christmas traditions. This year, it will be held for the 30th time. From 24 to 26 December, on the square at Franciszkańska 4, you will be able to visit a charming stable, see nativity plays and join in carol singing
- December 25-26. A live crib at the zoo. In the living nativity scene, which you will see, on the first and second day of Christmas, you will be able to 12.00-14.00, along with the Holy Family, Cameroonian sheep and a donkey will be waiting for visitors.
- December 27. Concert from the series “Nowa Huta. Why not?!” is an evening of Christmas carols in Krakow with a highlander note. The concert will take place at the Church of St. Judy Tadeusz in Czyżyny (ul. Wężyka 6). During the events, sometimes with Lidia Jazgar, the band Galicja and a highlander band, we will sing traditional Polish carols and pastorals
- December 29. Skaldowie – concert at the Nowa Huta Cultural Center, time. 18.00. In the 1970s, the Skaldowie were one of the main stars of the Polish scene, and their songs – “Everything tells me that someone loved me”, “Don’t kiss me first”, “Meditations of a village postman”, “You’re all in larks” or “Sleigh ride” ” developed with young hits
- December 30. At 19.30 go straight ahead New Year’s Eve carol concert at the sanctuary of the Holy Family (ul. Aleksandry 1) performed by the Krakow Young Philharmonic conducted by maestro Tomasz Chmiel. The equipment program includes arrangements of the most beautiful Christmas carols and film music. The concert will take place as part of the implementation of tasks related to citizenship
- January 22. Great New Year’s Gala at the Nowa Huta Cultural Center (at 17.00 and 19.30) to a carnival show, during which the listener will be able to be the main hits of noble music in a multimedia setting. The program includes czardas, operetta and musical arias and duets, hits from the repertoire of Andrea Bocelli, Leonard Cohen, Rita Hayworth, Il Volo and Michael Bublé. Accompanying music will be a unique choreography.
Workshops and exhibitions
- December 26–28 and 30. The Museum of Krakow invites you to own nativity play. Performances will be performed with each puppet, among which there are others, e.g. Herod, Death, Lajkonik or Mr. Twardowski. Nativity plays are accompanied by carols and pastorals played and sung live. Venue: Copper Room in the Krzysztofory Palace (Rynek Główny 35). Free event
- December 27-30. During these days, it is worth going to the Museum of Engineering and Technology in Krakow and visiting the exhibition “Trams on Wawrzyniec”. The Creativity Zone will be available for children, and at 11.00 and 15.00 classes in it will be a good educator
- December 28. On this day for a guided tour of the main exhibition “What does the picture do?” invites you to the Museum of Photography. Over 1,000 objects, including almost 300 cameras – ten thickets are worth seeing with a guide. During the tour, we will look at the various roles of photography: family heirlooms that will act as a prank, tools of ethnography and propaganda. “What does the picture do?” Let yourself see what the next camera looks like, what chemicals are used to take pictures, but also what criteria are set for the photographer, or what purposes photography is used for.
