This year, the organizers expected 700 guests in Stara Zajezdnia, but additional places have also been added. – Neither places nor packages can be missing; there are more of them, for each event – at the time of Christmas Eve Agnieszka Homan from Caritas of the Archdiocese of Krakow.
After reading a fragment of the Gospel, Archbishop Marek Jędraszewski was brought to the assembly. When expressing my wishes, the Metropolitan of Krakow, I am asking you to become a Christmas wafer.
– Each scene, each image engraved on the wafer says something about the day, but above all, the wafer itself, which is simple bread, flatbread – completely Archbishop Jędraszewski.
– So he talks about Bethlehem, because the name Bethlehem in Polish means “house of bread”. And at the same time, the ten wafers speak of God, who wanted to deal with us in the way that was most precious and pleasing to him – with his Son – condition of the Archbishop of Krakow.
The metropolitan added that breaking the wafer together would be a sign of brotherhood, love, goodness, and the Christmas Eve itself was a day of “human kindness coming out of God’s infinite goodness and love for us.”
– Bread is a gift of the earth and the work of human people, but God is behind it, who created error and man in his own image and likeness. We want each other kindness and kindness – said Archbishop Marek Jędraszewski in the Old Depot.

Christmas meal
On their eve they sat down to the festive tables, from which they arise borscht with dumplings, fried carp with potatoes and cabbage salad, cake, fruit and drinks. Common carolling is led by the Albertine Sisters.
– We wanted everything to happen in a festive atmosphere, to have a common traditional Christmas Eve, that no one is alone on this day. Therefore, it is not only Christmas Eve for the homeless and the poor, but also for the lonely – Model Agnieszka Homan.
Before leaving everyone will receive a food package, and in it, among others canned food, sugar, challah, vegetable butter, cookies, tea and chocolate.
Christmas Eve, as every year, the help of volunteers; Albertine Sisters, scouts from ZHP and ZHR, youth from the Volunteer Labor Corps, members of the Caritas Volunteer Center.
Christmas Eve organized by Krakow’s Caritas has been focused since 1991. Initially at the PKP railway station in Krakow, and then, for many years in the cloisters of the monastery of Franciscans.
The first Christmas Eve was organized in Stara Zajezdnia in 2017. Each time, the organizers take part in all the gathered places at the table and a package with food products for Christmas.
