Punk band Menace performs for the first time in Portugal in February 2023 – Music
The band will perform in Coimbra, at the Atelier A Fábrica art gallery, on February 11, 2023, starting at 10 pm, informed the producer of Punk Rock 77 bands, Syndikat Sekt, based in Coimbra, in a press release sent to Lusa agency.
The event opens with the bands Veneno California and Grito!.
According to the same note, pre-sales for the concert can be purchased at www.vorausrecords.com, with entry limited to 200 people.
The band Menace emerged in 1976, through vocalist Morgan Webster, guitarist Steve Tannett, bassist Charlie Casey and drummer Noel McDonagh, also known as Noel Martin, who gave the “first concert at the famous pub The Hope And Anchor, which made them quickly reach the Roxy and Vortex, as well as festivals like Rock Against Racism, thus creating a huge fan following that was boosted by regular shows in support of bands like Sham 69, among others”, he said.
According to the same note, in August 1977, they signed with Illegal Records, starting as a straight release with a single with two themes – “Screwed Up” and “Insane Society”.
In 1978 they released two more ‘singles’, one by Small Wonder Records, with the themes “GLC” and “I’m Civilised”, and another again by Illegal Records, with the themes “I Need Nothing” and Electrocutioner”.
Already in 1979, he tried to publish another ‘single’ by Small Wonder Records, with the themes “Last Years Youth” and “Carry No Banners”, finished in 1980 with a 7” EP, by Fresh Records, with the themes “The Young Ones”, “Tomorrow’s World” and “Live For Today”.
After four singles, “an EP [Extended Play] and three publishers, the band ended in 1979, returning in the late 90s with one of the original members, drummer Noel Martin, now also a vocalist, has released a lot of new material”, being its most recent edition the album “Social Insecurity” , 2018”, concluded the Syndikat Sekt.
