Infectious diseases: A wave of colds rolls across the country and has companions with it
Colds, corona, flu and RSV cases – infectious diseases apparently do not know Christmas holidays. Sniffles, coughs and sneezes everywhere in Salzburg. You can protect yourself by washing your hands and airing. If you like, you can also get vaccinated.
SALZBURG. A cold wave is rolling through the country. The situation is coming to a head due to simultaneous corona, flu and RSV cases.
“Only those who feel healthy should visit relatives and friends. That used to be the case, and the corona pandemic or flu wave hasn’t changed that,” says State Medical Director Petra Gruber-Juhasz. To minimize the risk of infection, the doctor advises sticking to simple measures such as washing your hands regularly or airing out. “In the longer term, vaccinations are the best preventive option to protect yourself against infectious diseases of all kinds,” says Gruber-Juhasz.
Tips for a healthy Christmas:
- Visits and meetings are best only if you feel healthy
- Wash hands regularly
- Regular airing
- Know your own vaccination status and catch up on outstanding immunizations
- Vaccination protection at all times
In Salzburg there is almost every day the opportunity to be vaccinated against infectious diseases such as the flu or Covid. The first point of contact for information and your own status or that of your children are the doctors. Influenza viruses are constantly changing
“Influenza viruses are constantly changing. It is therefore necessary to have an annual vaccination with an adapted vaccine,” says Gruber-Juhasz.
- For children in the province of Salzburg it is free of charge from the age of six months up to their 15th birthday at the pediatrician.
- For people over 65 years of age who live in old people’s, nursing and senior citizens’ homes, there are free activities on site.
- Adults can get the vaccine from pharmacies.
Free vaccination programs
Information on vaccinations is available on the country’s website: www.salzburg.gv.at/impfungen. Information on current campaigns for discounted vaccines or free programs is also continuously announced there.
