Competition: OPEN FACES FREERIDE SERIES 2022
TYROL. The Open Faces Freeride series has been one of the most important Freeride Qualifier event series in Europe for many years. A wide range of products is offered for beginners, but also for professionals. The “Open Faces Academy” will be integrated again on several event weekends. To make the start of the season perfect, Open Faces, together with the district newspapers, are giving away high-quality Scott products (helmet and goggles) for the perfect look on the slopes.
The World Qualifier series is back in Ski Juwel Alpbachtal Wildschönau
After the successful restart of the Open Faces series in mid-January, it is now time for the 1* Freeride World Qualifier and the 2* Freeride Junior Stop in the wonderful Alpbachtal. The journey for a later Freeride World Tour career started with valuable points in the 1 and 2 star contests. The Ski Juwel Alpbachtal Wildschönau is not only world-famous as a family destination, but also offers numerous freeride variants for freeride-enthusiastic winter sports enthusiasts. The Wiedersberger Horn is also the perfect mountain for such a contest.
Over 50 starters in the general 1* FWQ class and 25 in the junior class will give their best this coming weekend. The “bowl-like” wide face of the Wiedersberger Horn is described in the scene as the ideal terrain for fast, playful runs. In between you will always find one or the other cliff that brings valuable points for the final result. All in all, the victory is achieved with a smooth, error-free run. Or you can imitate the Austrian Nico Partell, who showed one of the longest backflips in Open Faces history and that in a 1* contest. Respect to Nico!
Alpbachtal – Ski Juwel Alpbachtal Wildschönau supports young freeride sports with the 2* FJT Stop
For the fifth time in a row, the Alpbachtal offers the youngest of the scene the opportunity to devote themselves to international freeride sports with a 2*FJT – Freeride Junior Tour Stop, even after the long Corona break of almost 2 years. The “Junge Wilden” are the future of this sport and basically already set the tone in the top freeride class. The 19-year-old Max Palm proved this impressively at the first stop of the Freeride World Tour 2022 with a first “double backflip” and his victory in the premier class.
Due to the still tense Covid situation, the enormously popular public area on the Wiedersberger Alm with LED Wall is not being used for safety reasons. On the slopes around the Hornlift, however, you have a perfect view of your face and can experience the action up close – and of course also with the usual high-quality live stream www.openfaces.com and on the organizer’s YouTube page.
Premiere of the Open Faces Academy in Alpbachtal
The organizers used the break caused by the pandemic to integrate new concepts. Safety and perfect planning have always been top priorities for the Open Faces crew. With the “Open Faces Academy”, the organizers now want to convey important knowledge about snow theory, finding the perfect line on the mountain and perfect preparation for backcountry and freeride trips in terms of safety or judging contests on a workshop basis. At the event weekend in Alpbachtal, the first Academy Workshop will be offered over 2 days and will focus on freestyle, backcountry freestyle. All information about this and other workshops can be found on the website www.openfaces.com.
