The Vox cinema in Avignon
The Vox cinema, in the intramuros of Avignon, is now classified as “Art and Essay”. A culmination and recognition for this family cinema in the city center which celebrates its century of existence this year. It is the CNC, the national cinema centre, which delivers this classification to cinemas which program a minimum of arthouse films, that is to say independent films, auteur films, sometimes demanding.
A program for the whole family
Sherazed Belaïd, the director of the Vox, has been working for three years to obtain this classification. She is delighted with this success, which will enable her to better deal with distributors to get the movies. “I almost cried when I opened the letter from the CNC, she says. I’m delighted, I hope it happens for 2022, the year of the hundred years. I also hope that will make it easier for us to obtain the films we want, today we cannot always broadcast these films when we wish. It is therefore one more weapon with distributors”.
But the Vox is also a cinema “local, family, Sherazed Belaid prosecution. This classification does not prevent us from keeping our identity. Family means going with children to see Puss in Boots, with teenagers to see Avatar and going to see auteur films between adults. This year, movies like The Night of 12, As Bestas we The Cairo Conspiracy met a large audience at the Vox. You can see them again from January 18 to 24 during the Télérama Festival.
The Vox becomes the second cinema in the intramuros of Avignon classified as “Art and Essay”, with Utopia.
