According to him, the government did not assess that the situation had improved, and adjusted the measures accordingly. He also wants to reduce the number of police officers, soldiers and customs officers deployed at the border. “We are reducing the number of soldiers from 80 to 40, the number of customs officers from 30 to 20,” said the Austrian.
The head of the Ministry of the Interior also thanked Slovakia. “The cooperation of the Slovak and Czech police has significantly improved after the negotiations with our counterparts and after the negotiations of the police presidents. Joint control of the Slovak and Czech police is already taking place on the territory of the Slovak Republic, which has proven to be a very effective method,” said the minister. He added that it reduces the pressure on the state border.
Controls at the borders of the Czech Republic and Slovakia were introduced by the Czech government cabinet on September 29, initially for ten days. Since then, it has extended the validity of these measures three times, most recently on December 7 for two weeks. The longest the Czech Republic can extend is until the end of March 2023. The Austrian believes that then the situation will calm down even more.
