Police are building: “I can become” campaign to secure the future
The police are looking for motivated people who want to join the police because they want to work in a versatile, varied and demanding job. The aim of the recruitment campaign is to address suitable applicants. The prerequisite for this is a corresponding physical, mental and psychological aptitude.
INNSBRUCK. State Police Director Edelbert Köhler takes a look at the number of employees in the Tyrolean police force. There are currently around 2,500 employees working for the police in Tyrol, 2,300 in the executive branch and 200 in administration. In 2015, the number of employees and employees was around 2,000.
“Security in Tyrol is not affected, but precautions must be taken for the future,” says Kohler, explaining the objective of the recruitment campaign. In 2022, 195 police students were accepted, 103 employees left.
“Like all sectors, employee development and recruitment is an important issue,” emphasizes the State Police Director.
Nationwide action
The large-scale recruitment campaign “I can become one” affects the entire federal territory. In order to be able to present the diverse tasks of the law enforcement service as realistically as possible, two female and two male police officers from the area of a police inspection with different special assignments are used as testimonials in Tyrol. They show the career within the police apparatus. However, they should also underline the attractiveness of the profession. Measures to further increase are planned on an ongoing basis. Around 80 percent of applicants for police service are between the ages of 18 and 35. But “older” people with the appropriate physical, mental and psychological aptitude are also welcome at the police station. Experience has shown that around 25 applicants come to the police academy.

But the positive moments and beautiful scenes clearly outweigh the negative ones.”

In the 24-month basic training course at the Training Center for the Security Executive (BZS) Tirol in Absam/Wiesenhof, prospective police officers are optimally prepared for the challenges of law enforcement by experienced teaching staff. After the theoretical and practical training, the young colleagues became the police stations in the Tyrolean districts. The spectrum ranges from the traffic service to the security police patrol and search service to the criminal investigation service. After a few years, every police officer has the opportunity to pursue a career through further training with the police – from an inspector to a managerial position.”
