The program of the celebration entitled Here, there, everywhere… is prepared by screenwriter and director Neda R. Bric together with video director Jasna Hribernik and other colleagues. The concept of the artistic work of the celebration is designed to reveal the life paths of Slovenians who have built successful careers outside the borders of Slovenia, either because they were born abroad or because their excellence exceeded the borders of their homeland. The second part of the celebration will reveal the life paths of people who have roots abroad, but have found their home in Slovenia. Among the performers is the young, world-renowned pianist Alexander Gadjiev.
On December 26, Slovenia celebrates Independence and Unity Day in memory of December 26, 1990, when the official results of the plebiscite held three days before were announced. The holiday, which was known only as Independence Day until 2005, was renamed after the adoption of the amendment to the Act on Holidays and Days Off in the Republic of Slovenia. With the change, we want to emphasize the unity of the citizens who decided in the plebiscite for an independent Slovenia.
Unity was marked by the plebiscite on the independence of Slovenia. As many as 93.2 percent of eligible voters went to the polls, of which 95 percent answered the question whether Slovenia should become an independent and independent country.
