Mobile air measurement station is now doing its work in Schaan – Liechtenstein
VADUZ – The mobile air measurement station of the Office for the Environment started operating last Wednesday at its new location, namely at Lindenplatz in Schaan. It will record the air quality there for a year. The system was in Eschen last year.
The Office for the Environment (AU) has been using a mobile measuring station to measure the air quality at various locations since 2005. These measurements are taken in addition to those at the fixed “Ostluft” measuring station at the State Library in Vaduz. In 2023, the mobile measuring station will be back in service with a focus on fine dust and nitrogen oxides in Schaan on Lindenplatz, the government announced on Tuesday evening.
Cause of all evil: combustion
But where is particulate matter and why is the data important? According to the AU, particulate matter is a mixture of the smallest dust particles and enters the air from various sources. So-called primary particulate matter is produced by burning fossil fuels (petrol, diesel, heating oil and coal) and wood. In addition to the primary sources is the portion that IS caused by road and tire wear and airborne dust. However, secondary particulate matter can form from gaseous precursor substances that originate from combustion exhaust gases or agricultural processes.
The mobile station also measures nitrogen oxide. These arise from combustion processes involving oxygen and gaseous nitrogen. This means that road traffic is the main source of nitrogen oxides.
Interested parties can view the values measured in Schaan as weekly curves on the AU website see. Reports from previous years can also be found on the website. at «eastern air» you can also call up the concentrations of particulate matter, nitrogen oxide and ozone at the State Library measuring station in Vaduz.
