MFG party 2.0: Gerhard Pöttler introduces new party “We are Salzburg”.
Former MFG Salzburg chef Gerhard Pöttler has founded a new “citizens’ movement”. This was presented at a press conference in Seekirchen on Tuesday. “We are Salzburg” is the name of the new project. Key themes include: regionality, economy and family.
SALZBURG. When he left the MFG “People, Freedom, Basic Rights” party at the end of September, Gerhard Pöttler still ruled out a return to politics. Now he’s back. The new movement is called “We are Salzburg”. Pöttler would like to run with her in the state elections in April.
Pöttler’s exit
At the end of September, Gerhard Pöttler left the People’s Freedom, Basic Rights (MFG) party and resigned from all his offices. The former Salzburg party leader stated that his party had developed in a direction with which he could no longer go in unison. Above all, there was talk of too much pandering and a dispute with members of the MFG state parliament in Upper Austria. At this point, Pöttler still ruled out returning to politics.
MFG 2.0
Now Gerhard Pöttler has obviously decided to become politically active again. His new party is called “We are Salzburg”. In particular in the areas of regionality, (agriculture) economy, family, education, as well as health care, social affairs, nature conservation and animal welfare, one wants to be creative. Many of his former party colleagues have also left the MFG and are now involved in the new project.
A key point that Pöttler and his fellow campaigners want to address is the fight against inflation. A press conference was held in Seekirchen am Wallersee on Tuesday, at which the new “citizens’ movement” was officially presented.
The foundation
“The main reason for the founding was the disappointment with the decline in values of MFG Austria and MFG Upper Austria,” explained Pöttler. According to Chairman Pöttler, the new movement will clearly differ from existing parties and citizen lists. “Authenticity, truthfulness, honesty and humanity are the flags”, wanting to pursue politics “from the bottom up” and “transparency” and “exemplify direct democracy”. “For us, all people are equal. There is no division, not even between the vaccinated and the unvaccinated,” he says.
Pöttler also criticized the “lethargic attitude of the state government to the current wave of inflation” and called for the profits of state groups to be shared among customers or for VAT to be suspended on everyday items. The new movement sees itself as very important in disclosing cases of corruption and in setting an example for democracy.
70 regular members
Deputy chairman Engelbert Neubauer – also a former member – added that the new movement was officially registered with the Ministry of the Interior on December 5th. “The national organization itself is in place, the board has been officially appointed and is currently supported by around 70 full members.” It is expected that the number of 500 members will be reached in a short time.
State election 2023
Gerhard Pöttler will stand in the state elections in 2023 with “Wir sind Salzburg”. An extension to the other federal states is also planned. It remains exciting.
