Leroy Merlin advances with the construction of the largest Logistics Platform in Portugal – Hipersuper
In January 2023, construction work on the largest logistics platform for Leroy Merlin in Portugal begins. For the company, the construction of this National Distribution Center results from the strategy of centralizing national logistics operations.
The construction of the National Distribution Center will make it possible to combine all national operations in a single space, which will have a significant impact on increasing efficiency and reducing operating costs for storage and transport. Leroy Merlin will also implement innovative solutions in this center in terms of the mechanization and automation of its operations, making it a logistics reference in the sector and within the universe of ADEO companies, the group to which Leroy Merlin belongs.
“This Distribution Center is fundamental to our national growth strategy and is an essential pillar in the development of Leroy Merlin as a platform company, providing support to the stores, as well as to the entire online market” underlines José Miranda, Leader of Supply Chain and Delivery from Leroy Merlin Portugal,
“In addition to the operational gains, which will allow us to better serve our customers, this new platform means a strong commitment to the safety of our employees and the reduction of our carbon footprint”, he adds.
The construction of the platform, with an area of 105,500 m2 in a single warehouse, will start in January 2023. The complex will be located in the Castanheira do Ribatejo area, on land acquired at the end of October. This is a strategic area at the intersection of the A1 motorway, Lisbon – Porto, with the A10, the road that connects Lisbon to Spain and the Algarve.
Leroy Merlin advances that, once operational, the Distribution Center will generate around 400 jobs, which will contribute to job creation in this region. During the construction phase, around 250 jobs will be generated with the participation of around 40 national and local companies.
This platform will be the first to be built in Portugal by Montepino Logística, managed by Valfondo, following the company’s most recent positioning in the international real estate market.
