Bad weather returns. Mainland Portugal faces two days of heavy rain

The National Emergency and Civil Protection Authority issued a state of special yellow alert for the districts of Viana do Castelo, Vila Real, Braga, Porto, Aveiro, Coimbra, Leiria, Viseu, Lisbon, Santarém and Setúbal.
Civil Protection allows similar levels of rain to last week may occurwhich caused floods in Lisbon, Alentejo and Ribatejo.
“Critical Period”

ANEPC appeals to tolerant people to protect themselves against the risk of flooding in urban areas.
“People should adopt self-protection measures and adjust their driving in the face of the expected adverse weather situation and also monitor what are the areas most similar to having preference for land and also avoid risky behavior on the coastline, such as moving away and not look for coastal areas”recommended Commander André Fernandes. In view of forecasts of intense precipitation in the Tagus, Sado and Guadiana river basins and Algarve streams, a more critical situation may occur on Tuesday.
The heavy rain that fell last Tuesday was the cause of more than three thousand occurrences, including waterlogging, flooding, tree falls and road cuts. It hit mainly the districts of Lisbon, Setúbal, Portalegre and Santarém.
The Civil Protection registered more than 7,950 occurrences, including 4,841 floods, and 88 people displaced between 0:00 am on the 7th and 8:00 am on the 15th of December.
