Christmas market open until New Year – salzburg.ORF.at
tourism
The Salzburg Christmas market will be extended this year until January 1st, 2023. Last year, the stands on Domplatz and Residenzplatz were open until New Year’s Eve – but only until 10 p.m., today they are open until 1 a.m.
Even before the years with the politically imposed CoV lockdowns, there were considerations of extending the Christmas market until New Year. This was the case for the first time in 2021. However, due to another CoV regulation, the stands were only allowed to remain open until 10 p.m.
Great fireworks and music
This year everything is different – all stands are open at least until 6 p.m. on New Year’s Eve, the catering and confectionery dealers at the Christmas market until 1 a.m. on New Year’s Day. There is also a big New Year’s Eve event on Kapitelplatz, plus music events and the big official fireworks display.
Lots of international audience
Basically, the Christmas season – even between Christmas Eve and New Year – is well attended, say the operators of the Christmas market. There is a lot of international visitors and therefore good business for all stall holders, says Wolfgang Haider, chairman of the operating association.
