Innsbruck Airport: air traffic controllers wanted – tirol.ORF.at
Business
Austro Control is looking for air traffic controllers. In recent years, the number of applicants has decreased. As a result, fewer air traffic controllers were trained than in the past.
Air traffic controllers are responsible for safety in Austrian airspace, they specify flight routes and flight altitudes and clear take-off and landing.
Strengths selection process
There are around 350 air traffic controllers in Austria. Around 20 of them work at Innsbruck Airport. Requirements for the application are, for example, the high school diploma and good eyesight and hearing. After that, applicants have to pass a tough selection process, and not many can do that. In a few years there were 40 apprenticeship positions for around 1,000 applicants.
But fewer and fewer people who want to do the training are practicing. It is said that only around 700 to 800 people apply each year. Of these, fewer than 40 selection procedures would pass and therefore not all training places could always be filled.
The training mainly takes place in Vienna. From the last year of training, you will be enrolled at your future workplace, for example at Innsbruck Airport.
