The Rosmerta association protests before the Vaucluse prefecture against the delays in residence permits
Rosmerta, which hosts around sixty refugees rue Pasteur in Avignon, calls for a rally in front of the Vaucluse prefecture this Friday afternoon at 3 p.m. the association denounces the issuance since the Covid of receipts to the 25 young migrants it hosts, which complicates their daily lives.
“The procedure for issuing residence permits has lengthened significantly and young people who apply only obtain a three-month receipt, which is no longer followed up in time for the issuance of their residence permit. stay”, explains Jenny Prager, member of the legal commission of Rosmerta, guest of the 6-9 of France Bleu Vaucluse this Friday. She also explains that it was these young people, exasperated, who pushed for the organization of a demonstration.
“They are kept in an extremely precarious situation.”
“Without a residence permit, they cannot find accommodation, they cannot be registered with Social Security. They cannot register for the driving license test either. And that is a big handicap also because many employers need them to have their permit”says Jenny Prager.
“They are kept in an extremely precarious situation and can’t move on, she also explains. They cannot project themselves into the future. And we must not forget either that these are young people who are terribly distressed because they have lived through absolutely appalling ordeals, some were in slavery, some were beaten, tortured, injured. They are very distressed and it is for this reason that they asked us to help them take this action with the prefect to draw attention to their situation.
The association has also launched a petition against these receipts on the website change.org
. It brings together this Friday morning more than 1,100 signatures.
