ICE leader Innsbruck wins in Graz
Table leader HC Innsbruck held its own against the Graz 99ers 5:4 on Friday in the win2day ICE Hockey League. VSV also won in Fehervar almost 3:2 and broke through the three-game goal suspension of Hungary in the first third. In the third game of the day, Black Wings Linz lost 3-1 at third-placed Bozen. The South Tyroleans and VSV, who have the same number of points, are the first pursuers from Innsbruck, ahead of Salzburg and three points behind.
The Tyroleans had to fight hard when they were ninth in the table in Graz. Only a goal by Martin Ulmer in the penultimate minute decided the particularly high-scoring game with six goals in the middle period. While Innsbruck found its way back to winning ways after losing 5-2 away against champions Salzburg, the Styrians suffered their third home defeat in a row.
VSV ends Fehervar’s goal suspension
In Hungary, Anthony Luciani ended the hosts’ goal suspension for VSV in the 17th minute. Fehervar had gone 236 minutes before that without conceding and came close to KAC’s league record (262 mins). Match winner for Villach, who was successful for the fifth time in the series, was Chris Collins with the winning goal to make it 3:2 in the 44th minute.
For Linz there was nothing to get in South Tyrol. The Upper Austrians’ only goal came from Kilian Rappold after a 3-0 deficit in the middle third.
