Extra electricity price cap for Salzburg’s heating systems – salzburg.ORF.at

Anyone who heats with electricity will receive a special tariff from Salzburg AG from the beginning of January. The suppliers and state politicians are now announcing this. In addition to the federal government’s electricity price coverage, households with heat pumps, night storage heaters, infrared heating systems and other electric heaters are to receive additional electricity at ten cents per kilowatt hour.
Those who heat with electricity from Salzburg AG will get 2,900 kilowatt hours at a lower price in the coming year. This applies in addition to the federal government’s electricity price cap, which also brings households 2,900 kilowatt hours at a lower fixed price.
Ten cents per kilowatt hour as a limit
State politicians and Salzburg AG have now negotiated this regional model, says Governor Wilfried Haslauer (ÖVP):
A notice:
According to Salzburg AG, anyone who does not have their own electricity meter for heating purposes must register separately for the corresponding contingent. The exact billing modalities are currently being worked out.
“Households heated with electricity are particularly affected by the recent price increases, which are unfortunately necessary. But I can’t imagine that there is a part of the population in Salzburg who can no longer afford heating. That is why Salzburg AG has now introduced the electricity price cap of ten cents per kilowatt hour.”
This electricity price cap of Salzburg AG is an important step, according to the Chamber of Labor (AK).
AK calls for additional hardship funds
However, the support is not enough, especially for households with lower incomes – if, for example, they heat with older night storage heaters, says AK President Peter Eder: “That’s why I would like the state to set up a hardship fund that covers cases that can’t get by with it and before existential problems. One must not forget that more than 50,000 people heat with electricity from Salzburg AG. You can imagine how many people stayed behind here.”
The new electricity price cap of ten cents per kilowatt hour from Salzburg AG applies from January 1 – initially for one year.
