DEG wins 237th Derby – Munich can still lose
DEL dominator EHC Red Bull Munich has lost a game after the last eleven wins in the series. The undisputed leaders of the German Ice Hockey League (DEL) lost against the Fischtown Pinguins from Bremerhaven 2:4 (1:0, 0:3, 1:1).
Cologne – Coach Don Jackson’s team had previously lost on November 1st. Despite the defeat, Munich still has a clear lead over the Adlern Mannheim, the leader on the EHC was able to shorten the gap a bit with a 3:1 (2:0, 0:1, 1:0) against Augsburg.
In the DEL prestige duel par excellence, the Düsseldorfer EG took revenge for the unfortunate defeat in the first Rhenish derby this season against the Kölner Haie. DEG won 3-2 (0-1, 3-1, 0-0) at their arch-rival and earned victory in the 237th Rhenish derby in particular through a strong middle third. In front of 18,386 spectators in the sold-out Lanxess Arena, Alexander Blank scored the winning goal shortly before the end of the second period – just 21 seconds after Jason Bast had scored the equalizer for the outnumbered Haie. On October 28th, DEG had led 3:1 up to 67 seconds before the end, but in the end lost 3:4 after extra time.
The German champions Eisbären Berlin suffered another bitter defeat in a 2:4 (2:1, 0:2, 0:1) against the Schwenninger Wild Wings. As the penultimate table, the polar bears are in the middle of the fight against relegation from the DEL after more than half of the preliminary round. dpa
