Trolleybus: Supervisory Board closes new company
The green light was given for a new contract for a so-called “shelf company”.
LH refers to other contracts with local railways
This is the prerequisite for a spin-off next year, says Governor Wilfried Haslauer (ÖVP), Head of the Supervisory Board at Salzburg AG: “The spin-off is necessary because we as a state have already concluded a transport service contract with the local railway and the Pinzgaubahn . Furthermore, the Executive Board needs the authorization to start the further steps. That’s a lot of work. It also has a cost, and he can’t do that out of the blue.”
Red councilwoman enthusiastic
The city and state of Salzburg would then have the say in the prospective company, says city councilor Anja Hagenauer (SPÖ), who sits on the supervisory board for the city: “This is a good opportunity to finally get the issue of traffic under control and to determine and to bear responsibility as a city and state. Unfortunately, I have not heard any idea from the other parties, let alone a better one. It is therefore clear that we as the city and state will go this way together so that people can finally take the bus again as normal.”
Why is Obus becoming less and less popular?
In recent years, the urban trolleybus has lost a significant proportion of the total volume of traffic, mostly to bicycles and private cars. The main criticism of the population is that the trolleybuses run too rarely and that all lines run right through the old town – and thus miss the requirements and destinations of many potential passengers.
Hard fronts with other parties
As reported several times, the political positions on the planned spin-off of the trolleybuses from Salzburg AG have been clear for a long time: ÖVP and SPÖ were and are in favor, all other politicians at least skeptical to absolutely against. In the supervisory board of Salzburg AG, which has been operating the trolleybus for centuries according to the classic municipal works, there was agreement on Thursday.
