“They leave us in the falling apart headquarters”
Verona, local police against the Municipality for the headquarters in via del Pontiere.
In Verona the controversy over the local police headquarters explodes again: and the police feel “betrayed and abandoned” by the municipal administration, which they say would have made them backtrack on the matter the move from the current headquarters in via del Pontiere. The individual trade unions Cisl, Uil and Ugl take to the field: “Everything you no longer hear hear was communicated to us in a single meeting with the administration on December 13th“, he claims.
Last summer there had been a series of initiatives by the local police in Verona, including two sit-ins, one in front of the command in via del Pontiere and one in piazza Bra, to protest the conditions deemed unacceptable by the current headquarters. Which would have, as repeatedly reported, problems of static nature at risk and poor healthiness of the building. “On this last occasion – the individual trade unions add in a note – the councilors Michele Bertucco and Stefania Zivelonghi met us to reassure us that the redeployment plan would be implemented by the end of December who still works at the command of via del Pontiere”.
Promise, the one made by the municipal administration, which had suspended the protests. But now things have apparently changed. And the reverse of the Municipality has not been digested by the police, who have to stay in via del Pontiere they don’t want to know.
“The premises are unusable, the headquarters seem abandoned”.
“At an inattentive look the seat in question seems abandoned: innocent pipes to avoid possible collapses, which create a steel frame, unusable rooms, peeling walls with evident cracks, pieces of cornice that have already detached, corridors submerged in pigeon droppings, rodents emerging from the bathrooms, architectural barriers. These are just some of the aspects that accompany the men and women of the Via del Pontiere command on a daily basis. Mom we believed we had succeeded in convincing this administration, which in the July meeting he had exposed himself by declaring that the staff in via del Pontiere would be moved and made safe by the end of the year. Instead on 13 December we were summoned by the same administration that communicated to us that the officers and agents of via del Pontiere will not move, no movement, no hope of improving the current conditions”.
The protests are back.
“We believe this attitude harmful and extremely dangerous for the women and men of the local police. Uil, Cisl and Ugl want to strongly distance themselves from this decision and we will try in every way to change the administration’s mind, because we don’t want to be accomplices in what would be an announced massacre. As a result of the words of the councilors Bertucco and Zivelonghi in July 2022, it was suspended the state of agitation of local police personnel, who following this sudden change of decision we will be forced to reinstate immediately”.
