The book will be presented on Saturday 17 December, at 5 pm, in the CinemathequeRimini rediscovered. Images from the 1950s in unpublished shots by Amedeo Montemaggi“, curated by Sabrina Foschini and the Rimini Vanished Association, sponsored by Municipality of Rimini and the Gambalunga Librarywith the editorial coordination of Andrea Montemaggi. In 2020, a surprising number of negatives were found among Amedeo Montemaggi’s effects, with images never printed (with very few exceptions). The photographic fund has approx 40,000 shots since 1954, which systematically document Rimini’s events, characters and landscapes, including the city’s artistic and architectural heritage. These are black and white images that portray, in every historical-artistic and customary aspect, the society and landscapes of Rimini during the reconstruction, the early years of the tourist boom in which lost urban visions, disappeared cultural traditions, worldly events, fashion and personalities of that era in which the foundations of contemporary Rimini were laid.
A find that in some ways suggests a parallel with Vivian Maier, the great photographer rediscovered after her death. Amedeo Montemaggi, An art lover and admirer of the American masters of photography associated with Life magazine, he not only documents the facts but interprets them through his creative and experimental eye. Among the most surprising factors is the careful study of the composition of the shots and of the light. In the volume, in addition to a representative sample of over 100 images, there are texts with biographical references to Amedeo Montemaggi and a critical reading of the exhibited works.
