Reichenau: Young gang of three terrorized with firecrackers
While the Innsbruck municipal council unanimously approved a motion for a broad information campaign against firecrackers and fireworks, three youths terrorize the population of Reichenau with numerous firecrackers. In the area of the Inn promenade and the high-rise buildings on Reichenauer Straße, they cause massive trouble for minutes.
INNSBRUCK. Appeals, decisions of the municipal council, existing bans. It actually seems to be clear to most Innsbruck residents: firecrackers are not wanted in the city. Three young people in the Reichenau district do not seem to know the legal situation or are consciously disregarding it.
The number of private fireworks and the continuous “bangs” in some parts of the city long before the turn of the year repeatedly cause incomprehension and annoyance among the residents. Pets are particularly affected. In Innsbruck, for example, E.g. 4,506 dogs registered. In addition to the nuisance, there are littered parks and green spaces as well as numerous damage to park benches and bones in the parks.

The urgent motion by the FPÖ in the municipal council for comprehensive information from non-profit property developers to their tenants about the existing bans and dangers of firecrackers and illegal fireworks was passed unanimously. The city is also increasingly pointing out the existing legal situation on various communication channels.
“The Neue Heimat Tirol, TIGEWOSI, Alpenländische and IIG should remind the existing ban in flyers to the tenants or on the bulletin board. At the same time, the penalties and dangers should be referred to,” explains StR Rudi Federspiel. “In order to reach as many people as possible, this leaflet should also be published in several languages.”

Fireworks may not be fired within the city limits. Fireworks may be legally sold by the relevant specialist trade, but according to the applicable pyrotechnics law, firing them is generally prohibited in the local area and in the vicinity of hospitals, churches, nursing homes, childcare facilities and crowds of people. The City’s Mobile Surveillance Group (MÜG), in cooperation with the police, monitors and controls both the sale and the applicable bans on fireworks under the Pyrotechnics Act.
Bans: Rockets & Co are divided into four categories. Category F1 includes sparklers and tabletop fireworks that may be lit indoors. Category F2 are, for example, Swiss firecrackers (so-called “pirates”), firecrackers and rockets. These may be fired by people over the age of 16, but only outside of the local area. For categories F3 and F4 – high-impact rockets and firework bombs – the minimum age is 18 years. This also requires special expertise and a pyrotechnic permit.
