President receives the newly appointed Apostolic Nuncio
The President of Malta George Vella received the newly appointed Apostolic Nuncio for Malta, Savio Hon Tai-Fai on Thursday.
After the formal presentation of his Credential Letters, the Apostolic Nuncio conveyed on behalf of His Holiness Pope Francis greetings to president Vella and the Maltese and Gozitan people.
He also stressed the long-term and warm relations between Malta and the Vatican.
President Vella recalled the recent visit to Malta of Pope Francis, and stressed that the Maltese people, as well as the various foreign communities present, were very pleased to welcome and, in a number of cases, also meet in person. with His Holiness.
The messages that were given during the visit of Pope Franics, especially in relation to migration, multiculturalism and the preservation of the global environment, were very important, said Vella.
Developments in the Mediterranean region as well as the latest situation in Ukraine were also discussed during the meeting.
As Apostolic Nuncio in Malta, Archbishop Savio Hon Tai-Fai will represent the Holy Father and the Holy See both in relation to the Catholic Church in Malta and Gozo, as well as to the Civil Authorities.
He will also be the Dean of the Diplomatic Corps accredited to the Republic of Malta. It is the duty of the Papal Representative to strengthen the bonds of communion between the Apostolic See and the Catholic Church present in the country where he is stationed. For this reason, it is the responsibility of the Apostolic Nuncio to assist the Bishops of Malta and Gozo while they carry out their pastoral role. At the same time, the Nuncio will promote and facilitate relations between the Government of Malta and the Holy See.
