Port Townsend Police Log | “Swedes are around”
The Port Townsend Police Department received a total of 100 calls between Friday, November 25th and Thursday, December 1st. Below are selected reports.
Monday, November 28 at 17.27 a caller reported a fire in the 900 block of Haines Place. A boat building was on fire and the police managed traffic control while the firefighters extinguished the flames.
Monday, November 28 at 23.27 in the 1600 block of Walnut Street, a welfare check was requested after a friend had trouble contacting a resident who lived alone. A police officer made contact with the resident who was at home and in good health. The person promised to call the friend back.
Tuesday, November 29 at 15.31 shots were heard in the 1900 block of Ninth Street. Police searched the area and were unable to find anyone.
Tuesday, November 29 at 19.24 in the 800 block of Sheridan Street, a hospital employee reported an unwanted male had returned who had previously been escorted from the property.
The man claimed he needed treatment for his broken collarbone, but had already been treated before.
Officers contacted the man but he declined an offer to be driven to a nearby warming shelter. At the man’s request, he was dropped off in the 2500 block of Evans Vista. The police gave the man water bottles, hand warmers, a blanket and a hat. The man later admitted that he went to the hospital to get morphine.
At 12.41 Wednesday 30 November officers responded to an emergency call in the 3900 block of San Juan Avenue after a security system was alerted at the middle school. Police searched the school campus and all doors were locked with no sign of an attempted break-in.
At 15.03 Wednesday 30 November, in the 700 block of Hancock Street, a caller reported finding a bicycle in the woods. The caller had reported the discovery to a local bike shop and was told to contact the police.
A police officer retrieved the bike and returned it to the owner.
At 20.12 on Wednesday 30 November officers drove to North Beach County Park after a caller complained of people in the park after it closed.
The officers contacted the beachgoers and warned them that the beach was closed at dusk.
At 20.37 on Wednesday 30 November in the 1600 block of Grant Street, a caller complained of a car driving in the wrong lane, causing the caller to swerve to miss the other vehicle. Officers searched the area and were unable to locate the vehicle, which was described as a green pickup truck.
At 20.37 on Thursday 1 December an employee in the 3900 block of Holcomb Street requested a welfare check on an elderly customer who was supposed to pick up his vehicle from the auto service shop but had not shown up.
An officer contacted the woman, who was fine, and she said she would call the auto dealership.
Thursday, December 1 at 21.44 in the 600 block of 55th Street, a caller told police that “Swedes were around” as well as Vikings. He did not want to give his address, but a police officer spoke to the man on the phone. He said he had smoked a lot of cannabis recently.
