Camper vanism registers numbers registered in Portugal
Motor caravanning is a booming sector in Portugal, having shown, in 2022, more demand than supply of rental vehicles in some months of the year
To the Yes coverreference platform in the rental of motorhomes and campervans in Europe, this “boom” meant an annual growth of 40% in the volume of reservations, a value that rose to 58% in the period between May and June, compared to the previous year.
In Portugal, the volume of motorhome trips, using vehicle hire, was higher between the months of May and June. If in 2021 Yescapa recorded 2760 trips in this period, 2022 proved that the practice is here to stay: 4380 trips made in the country and a stay rate of 87%.
About 45% of the reservations registered on the start-up’s website in 2022 were by foreigners in Portugal, namely Germans, French, Spanish and Italians. However, the Portuguese also “awakened” to this form of travel, with a significant increase compared to 2021. The profiles of travelers in Portugal remained the same: people aged between 30 and 50, couples with children, couples and groups of friends.
Remember that Yescapa is present in eight European countries, namely France, Portugal, Spain, Germany, United Kingdom, Switzerland, Belgium and Italy. In June, July and August, it registered more than 30,000 rental requests across Europe and in September, 15,000 vehicles were available for rent on the platform.
In Portugal, there are more than 1000 vehicles available for rent, but if there were more available, more would be rented, since Portugal has been consolidated in recent years as one of the preferred countries for the practice, and one of the markets with the most demand as a tourist destination in the Yescapa.
The main reasons that lead foreigners to choose Portugal are the mild climate, which allows traveling at any time of the year, the geographic shape of the country that offers travelers the possibility of moving around easily, the gastronomy and the fact that Portugal is a country more attractive to foreigners at a financial level, when compared to other European countries.
