Blitz by latest generation climate activists in Venice: Ponte della Libertà blocked
Interrupt the reopening of coal plants and cancel the project for new drilling, increase the use of wind power, stop a government that – you argue – is helping to bring the planet towards an irreversible process by investing in fossil fuels.
Blitz by Last Generation activists today, Wednesday 14 December, at the entrance to the Ponte della Libertà.
The last act of civil and peaceful disobedience took place as a theatre the connection between Mestre and Venice, already haywire this morning due to an accident between various vehicles before and the CGIL strike.
Motorists get out of their cars and insult the activists blocking the Liberty bridge
The small group armed with banners and chains was supposed to go into action at 7.30, but seeing that there was already a queue on the bridge even without the protest, they waited for the situation to normalize and then carried out the blitz.
About ten students and workers, including a Venetian, a student in the lagoon city and the others from various parts of the Veneto region, have positioned themselves at the entrance, sitting down on the ground.
Blitz for the climate on the Liberty bridge in Venice, the activists taken away by the police
Thirty minutes later the activists were taken away by police officers, who intervened on the spot to restore traffic on the bridge, after protests from motorists. They will all be reported.

Last Generation explains in a note :”Venice is an exemplary case of a high-risk situation due to the effects of the ecoclimatic collapse in Italy. It is certain, in fact, that on Italian territory this symbolic city will be among the first to be hit more and more regularly by phenomena such as rising seas, salinization of arable land and storms, which will lead to a progressive abandonment of these marvelous areas.
As we can see again from the recent disasters in Ischia, Marche this summer, investments in palliative measures and damage recovery caused by extreme weather events that have already occurred are no longer sufficient or acceptable; an immediate change of course is needed to address the problem in all its complexity and immediacy”.
It’s still: “The entire Po Valley, like the south, will become unlivable areas in the next decadewith a consequent increase in internal tensions, linked to migratory flows to find new cultivable and habitable land.
We observe a clear vision of what our future will be with an inattentive and detached gaze, noting what has already been happening for some time now in Africa, the Middle East and in areas of South-East Asia where climatic migrations are already dramatically very current realities .
The warning we are witnessing from a perspective of total indifference and insensitivity must reach anyone, prompting the need to forcefully ask our Governments for concrete and rapid actions to prevent similar scenarios, which are more than probable for us too”.
