SALZBURG. 18 witnesses were invited to the trial today about a serious case of violence in education. A psychological assessment was also obtained. The two accused Wiesen denied the allegations at the last hearing dates in the summer. They said that they could not explain the incriminating statements made by their children. According to prosecutor Ricarda Eder, the two should have a cultivated upbringing style that could have endangered the physical and psychological integrity of the children (today between 16 and 23 years old). No verdict today. The trial will be on Wednesday.
violence in education
A Salzburg couple is on trial today and tomorrow because of their allegedly violent upbringing methods. Specifically, they are accused of abusing their four children, who are now between 16 and 23 years old, and punishing them draconically for small things. The victims are the biological children of the man. In 2006 she divorced her mother. He was given sole custody and raised the children alone for two years. In 2008 his new partner moved in. After the marriage, the couple is said to have become extremely strong and also started to cultivate a violent upbringing style. According to public prosecutor Ricarda Eder, this is said to have actually endangered the physical and psychological well-being of the children. Psychological consequences cannot be ruled out.
beatings and penalties
Specifically, the children’s father and stepmother are accused of psychologically abusing their children and, according to multiple media reports, using various methods. The children are said to have been slapped and pushed down the stairs. Other allegations are: one day tying a boy with tape, knee bends and standing outside for hours in the cold, being locked in their rooms for days as punishment, ice-cold showers, pressing their heads in the rain barrel and standing naked against the wall for several hours. The parents are said to have taken photos of the latter and threatened to show the children’s pictures to their friends.
defense
The two defendants firmly reject the allegations in the previous negotiations. They would love their children and would not be able to explain the allegations. Most of the time, the only punishments they imposed were television and mobile phone bans. A few squats for movement and as punishment, standing in the room like tin soldiers, were used, but for a maximum of 15 minutes. Furthermore, there have only been two slaps in the children’s lives so far. The defendant’s ex-wife was responsible for one of them in 2004. In 2012, the current partner and co-defendant of his son is said to have missed a slap in the face for irresponsible behavior. The two pleaded not guilty at the final hearing. To date, they are considered to be innocent.
At the hearing in June, the defense attorney for the two also brought up the fact that the two had been accompanied by an expert from the youth welfare office for 16 years. They never noticed anything. Furthermore, one of the children would also deny the statements made by his siblings.
The accusation
The two accused had to answer for violence according to §107b StGB today. The public prosecutor assesses the statements of the victims as well as those of witnesses as credible. The attacks are believed to have occurred between 2009 and 2018. Due to this long duration, the sentence is five to 15 years. The trial will normally be tomorrow. We will report the verdict.
