The MDGs require Norway to give Ukraine 8 billion in energy aid
– Norway is in a special position with our extraordinary income from oil and gas. We should therefore single-handedly provide the sum Ukraine is requesting in its entirety and with that step up our aid to the country to a far greater extent than we have done so far.
This is what MDG parliamentary representative Lan Marie Berg says after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyj on Tuesday asked to contribute 800 million euros – NOK 8.4 billion – within a short time to secure Ukraine’s energy sector.
Berg says the party wants the Storting to adopt a solidarity fund based on all the extraordinary income from oil and gas that is currently transferred to the oil fund.
– Rather allocating the money to those who need help in Ukraine and those who suffer as a result of the consequences of the war elsewhere will be fair to those who are suffering the most now, she says.
