FESTIVALS – It was a big question mark, now raised. The Avignon, Vieilles Charrues, Interceltique de Lorient, Francofolies de la Rochelle, Hellfest and Eurockéennes de Belfort festivals will take place in the summer of 2024, subject to an adjustment of their dates so as not to fall at the same time. time that the Olympic Gamesannounced this Tuesday, December 13 the Ministry of Culture.
At the end of October, the Minister of the Interior Gerald Darmanin should have misunderstanding of the performing arts sector by evoking the need to be “cancelled or postponed” cultural or sporting events in the summer of 2024, due to the massive mobilization of the police for the Olympic Games (July 26 to August 11).
Are particularly concerned the biggest events which will necessarily involve reinforcements of CRS or mobile gendarmes.
But after a demining operation induced by Culture Minister Rima Abdul Malak and consultations with the organizers, “Solutions have already been found for most of these events to ensure they are held during the summer of 2024”the ministry said in a statement.
“Les Vieilles pass Charrues the weekend before, for example, the Interceltique de Lorient could be postponed after August 11. The Avignon Festival will also start earlier »said the minister in an interview at Parisian posted this Tuesday eveningadding that the Francofolies de la Rochelle, the Hellfest and the Eurockéennes de Belfort “will stand” too.
On the other hand, the Lollapalooza, organized at the Longchamp racecourse in Paris, remains “a complicated case because it is in Île-de-France and is held during the Olympic events”she acknowledged. “We continue to seek a solution with them”continued the Minister, mentioning among the tracks a possible change “of site, of dates” or an agreement with another festival.
The Rock en Seine festival, to be held during the Paralympic Games, is also “another case under study because in Île-de-France”.
Before July 17, or after August 12
The ministers concerned have designated a framework for the prefects who must authorize or not the festivals in the summer of 2024.
Main restriction: the biggest events, requiring mobile gendarmes or CRS, could not take place from July 18 to August 11, from the opening of the Olympic village until the end of the games, but the others, “secured by local or departmental forces, are intended to be maintained”.
The festivals concerned may be postponed before July 17, where “all events are intended to be maintained”or in the following fortnight, from August 12 to 23, when “a few rare big events” be able to stand, before another restriction period during the Paralympics, from August 24 to September 8.
Too many rules “discretionary and random”reacted to AFP Aurélie Hannedouche of the Sma (Union of current music), who fears a continuation of the “case by case, as during the Covid, instead of clear, readable, fair and effective rules”.
Some festivals remain in the dark: in Arles (Bouches-du-Rhône), the Festival des Suds plans to end on July 14 but fears that it will still have to adapt according to the route of the Olympic flame… and the decisions relating to other cultural events: “things follow one another and fit into a calendar (…) if we move a festival, it’s all this balance that we disturb”explained its director Stéphane Krasniewski to AFP.
