Stockholm-based Waynes Coffee has opened its first café in Denmark in the Nørrebro district of Copenhagen.
The coffee chain, which has more than 70 stores in Sweden, said it will appeal to Copenhagen’s “dynamic and multicultural” consumers on the Nørrebrogade shopping street, which has a strong Swedish community.
“We are incredibly happy and proud to be able to open the first Waynes Coffee in Copenhagen. We hope that Waynes will be the new meeting place in Nørrebro, where people can gather over a coffee, says Mathilda Mertz, store manager, Waynes Nørrebrogade.
Founded in Stockholm in 1994, Waynes is the second largest café operator in its domestic market and also operates stores in Germany, Norway, Cyprus, Jordan, Saudi Arabia and Vietnam.
The coffee chain recently opened its first express cafe concept outlet in Vela centrum shopping center in Helsingborg. Waynes said the on-the-go format could “open up a whole new market” for the brand.
The World Coffee Portal forecasts the total Scandinavian brand cafe market will return to pre-pandemic levels by 2024, with Denmark expected to lead the region’s growth.
