RB Salzburg too strong for the Bundesliga
Austria: Salzburg managed to win the title again last season.
Apart from one defeat and four draws, Salzburg won the remaining 23 league games in the 2021 season and thus clearly dominated the Austrian Bundesliga. Red Bull Salzburg was thus able to secure its nineteenth title in a row and its 13th overall – and that already five rounds before the end of the season. No other Austrian team even comes close to the club. So is Salzburg too strong to ensure fair competition?
Salzburg is also the leader of the table in the current season
RB Salzburg was not only able to convince in the last season. Things are also looking very good for the table leaders in the current Bundesliga season. Online sports betting Websites wrote before the start of the season that it was highly likely that the club would not clinch their tenth straight win. That says a lot. However, online sports betting with the bookmakers can not only be placed on the victory or defeat of the team. Sports betting fans can also bet on the total number of goals or the number of goals scored by specific players and much more.
The sponsor Red Bull brings financial benefits
RB Salzburg has been the superstar of the Austrian Bundesliga for several years now. The team also has the generous investment of their sponsors Red Bull to thank for this. Compared to the other clubs in the Austrian Bundesliga, Salzburg also has big financial advantages. This has the consequence, for example, that the club can afford one or two players who would hardly be affordable for their opponents. So Red Bull Salzburg clearly has a special position in the Bundesliga. But after that, the club has to let go of first-class coaches and successful young players again and again. However, this has not stopped RB Salzburg from dominating the Bundesliga in Austria again and again.
Top performers have left the club
Before last season, RB Salzburg once again had to let several strong personalities go. For one thing, former Salzburg coach Jesse Marsch has emigrated to RB Leipzig – Salzburg’s sister club. Important players have also left the team. These include Enock Mwepu, Mergim Berisha and Patson Daka. However, based on the results of the last season and the prospects for the current season, it is easy to see that RB Salzburg can easily compensate for these losses.
The coaching position has now Matthias Jaissle accepted. He is the youngest coach in Austrian Bundesliga history and has never won a championship before his current position – neither as a player nor as a coach. So far, however, the young German seems to have been a good choice.
Salzburg always produces top players
RB Salzburg has already produced many super talents, which the club has sold to clubs abroad for sometimes very high sums. The transfer balance of Salzburg – that is the difference between the transfer income and the transfer expenditure – has been steadily positive since around 2016. Currently, in 2022, it is even around 48.9 million euros. The Salzburg club’s most expensive player sale so far was that of striker Patson Daka, who was mentioned above. Salzburg sold him to Leicester City last season for a fee of 30 million euros.
But Daka is far from the only top player that RB Salzburg has produced. Another well-known name is B. Hee-Chan Hwang. Salzburg loaned him to HSV in 2018 and earlier this year the up-and-coming player was signed from Wolverhampton for €17m. Another well-known face who also hails from the Salzburg club is Masaya Okugawa. In 2021 the player was sold to Bielefeld and since then he has scored so many goals that it looks like he could challenge Shinji Okazaki for the Japanese Bundesliga season record.
