Marcelo was impressed by the bad weather in Portugal: “It went from dry to something you had never seen before”
The President of the Republic Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa spoke this Tuesday about the bad weather that affected Portugal this Monday and Tuesday and was impressed that our country had gone from a drought situation, which caused constraints in the summer, to a situation of floods and floods.
Speaking to TSF, the President of the Republic considered that the worst situation occurred “until early afternoon” today.
“The worst morning and with occurrences in several places across the country, and in greater numbers in what was considered the worst night, but with some incidence in surprising areas, such as, for example, Portalegre”, explained the head of state
Marcelo spoke with some former mayors of municipalities in the district of Portalegre and said that they commented with “it is impressive how it has gone from drought to something that had never been seen before”.
The President of the Republic also reported the floods that they saw in Cascais and Algés this morning, noting that the area “has the meeting of the tide with the problem of water drainage”.
Even so, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa considered that it was “positive” the fact that “fatal cases” were not registered, such as the one that was endured a week ago, with one death due to bad weather.
At the end of this Tuesday afternoon, the IPMA requested a bad weather alert for mainland Portugal, which is now at the ‘green’ level. However, the yellow alert returns this Wednesday, with more rain expected.
