How many new beer halls can Athens hold?
A few years ago most people were hearing about IPA beers and craft labels in general and trying to figure out what kind it was. Now not only do they know, but they resolutely walk into stores and many of them and ask “what new IPAs do we have?” and “what fresh did we bring?”.
The culture of craft beer, the one that escapes from – indifferent if you ask us – mass production, has soaked the souls and stomachs of the public for good, and this can be seen through the new beer bars that are making their appearance in the narrow streets of the city . .
So here are some new and nice biro-addresses to extend your testing.
Press 27
27 Eratosthenous, Pagrati, tel: 21 0751 6849
The nomad brewer of Mustaki Brewery, Panagiotis Krikis, and his partner, Kostas Paschidis, are behind this relaxed and minimal taproom in Pagratio, where you will find ten taps of domestic craft beers, which change frequently (Alea, Sourmena, Mustaki, Noctua etc.) In their fridge they bring many other labels, from foreign microbreweries as well as Greek ones, the others you should not visit and enjoy at home on the pavement or on the pavement. Don’t hesitate to ask them about a purchase if you have any questions. They will gladly guide you to choose the beer that suits you. The pint from €4.
The Dogs Place
Antaeou 3, Ano Petralona, Merkouri square
It opens a few days after the writing of the article (hopefully Friday 16 December) and brings to its 24 taps imported craft beers (Brewdog, Stone, Primator, Bernard, Bevog, Vocation, Zichovec etc.) as well as domestic ( Solo, Paragon, Strange Brew etc.) with the labels being constantly renewed. The interior is reminiscent of traditional Brewdog Pubs abroad and is decorated with impressive graffiti by the PIGS crew, while its speakers blast rock, post punk, punk, post rock and other alternative tunes for discerning ears. In his cellar you’ll also find 200 and label bottled/canned beers, as well as some spirits. At the snack bar, it serves two kinds of varieties so you don’t drink dry. Prices from €4.50 per pint.
Slow Down Brewing
Kydantidon 39, Petralona
Beers… with their passion from Ikaria, made with love by Jonathan Spanos and Nasia Kyriakou and now served to us in Athens through their brand new tap room in Petralona. In its minimal space, you will try their labels with Ikaria water on tap: the cool Saizon, the black Porter, the amber Amber and the Slow Down Pale Ale. In their fridge you will find others, selected from the domestic craft scene, while as a side dish you will snack on a plate with small island cheeses. Here you will also find wines from small Greek producers and wines of natural vinification. Prices from €5 per pint. They also have take away for home tests.
