The bad weather recorded in Portugal and in particular in the capital and surroundings on the night of Wednesday to Thursday caused one death in Oeiras, in greater Lisbon, and according to civil protection almost 2 thousand occurrences, mostly flooding in urban roads and in the dwellings. According to the Portuguese authorities, this exceptional episode of rain caused 27 people to be displaced – nine in Odivelas, six in Amadora and 12 in Loures – who were provisionally installed in support areas.
Taking stock today of the consequences of the storms, the Mayor of Lisbon, Carlos Moedas, began by referring that there are no victims to mourn in the capital, but indicated that there were “Many material damages”.
“Lisbon has not had a red alert for a long time, in fact I think since 2014 (…), and therefore there is a lot of material damage. Fortunately, in the municipality of Lisbon, we have no damages in terms of human life to consider. People were helped, there were distressing situations, but problem solvers participated. As we know, on the side of Oeiras, in Algés, we have to mourn a person who died, but here in the municipality of Lisbon. Above all, we have a lot of damaged materials.”said Carlos Moedas.
