Location offensive Rossau: Business location with catching up to do
There is keen interest in the Rossau location offensive. Around 100 participants meet to discuss the future of Rossau as an economic center as part of a stakeholder workshop. An online survey on the business location was also presented, in which around 780 people took part.
INNSBRUCK. Entrepreneurs, employees, municipal employees and interested parties were given the opportunity to actively contribute their own ideas and future scenarios at the stakeholder workshop. The Raumposition office, which was commissioned with the planning and process support of the Rossau, provided information in a keynote speech on the initial situation and the challenges of further developing the site. The participants then worked in four groups on location-relevant topics such as mobility, energy, public space and urban planning.
“Around 10,000 people work in Rossau. We are providing more than 800 operating, business and production premises at this strong location. It has been shown that the direct exchange with the local companies is enormously important and provides many important inputs for the offices and departments involved from the city side. This should then result in implementable improvement measures, with the help of which we want to further develop the largest urban economic area into the most attractive location in western Austria”.emphasizes City Councilor for Economic Affairs Christine Oppitz-Plorer.
diversity
In general, the variety of different economic sectors in Rossau is seen as an opportunity, as it offers a certain degree of security against crises. Due to its proximity to the city and its importance as an axis in the European north-south corridor, Rossau is a popular business location with established structures. This is also proven by the good utilization of the office and commercial space, with hardly any reserves or vacancies to be recorded. Nevertheless, due to the rapid growth since the 1960s, there is still a lot of catching up to do, according to the tenor of the workshop participants.
“In the last few weeks, an intensive online survey has been carried out to get a better understanding of the situation and general conditions on site. Thanks to the lively participation, we were able to collect comprehensive data and information that provide important insights for the next planning steps”.explained Daniela AllmeierManaging Director of Raumposition.
focal points
The focal points of the workshop groups revolve around traffic, in particular the high volume of motorized individual traffic and the bottleneck Griesauweg as the only north-south connection. The participants see potential above all in the expansion of local public transport. Qualities were discussed, such as public space, which is considered a key location factor for finding skilled workers. In order to upgrade this, for example, an increase in the quality of stay or the expansion of social infrastructure such as childcare or gastronomy is necessary. Last but not least, the energy aspect, such as the establishment of energy communities, the expansion of district heating or photovoltaic systems, was mentioned as a major future topic for the companies in Rossau. There was also intensive discussion about establishing a contact point for the concerns of companies and their organizational form in Rossau.
“We are happy about the good cooperation with all opportunities”, thanked Markus DaxManaging Director of STEKA Werke and member of the Economic Chamber district committee Innsbruck-Stadt and spokesman for Rossau. “As an entrepreneur, I see the process as a great opportunity to bring new qualities to Rossau.”

Professional room planning
A process for the further development of the location was therefore initiated under the leadership of the Office for Urban Planning, Urban Development and Integration and the Office for Real Estate, Business and Tourism. The Viennese planning office Raumposition, which has accompanied many urban development projects in the federal capital and numerous cities and municipalities and has a lot of experience in the moderation and control of complex urban development processes, is entrusted with the implementation. In a next step, the experts will work out concrete proposals. These will be discussed again next year.
