San Marino. AIDS prevention: the appeal of the Youth Policies Commission
“December 1st is World AIDS Fighting and Prevention Day and, as usual, the Commission for Youth Policies wants to draw attention to this issue which is so important but at the same time little discussed, especially among young people”.
He writes it Daniela Amici, president of the San Marino Youth Policies Commission.
“HIV infection and the disease AIDS are research ambitions in which modern medicine has made enormous strides, transforming an inexorably deadly pathology into a curable condition.
However, this has not allowed to diminish the stigma that revolves around it, misinformation and fear.
Italian data (ISS, 2021) say that in 2020 the proportion of people with a new AIDS diagnosis who ignored their HIV positivity increased.
Therefore we believe it is necessary to push further to promote awareness campaigns with respect to this topic which is still perceived today by a large part of the population as a secondary “risk”.
Particular attention goes to the very young who sometimes ignore the existence of the disease and what are the ways in which it comes into contact.
This is why we invite you, without fear given the confidentiality, in case of doubts, for greater awareness and to take the test, to ask your general practitioner for any type of information on this still existing disease.
We take this opportunity to thank the Secretariat of State for Health, the Secretariat of State for Education and Culture and the Social Security Institute for the attention paid to the issue and for the Commission’s involvement in the awareness campaign.
We remind you that, thanks to the initiative of the ISS, from 28 November to 04 December 2022 in all pharmacies in the Republic the condoms purchased over the counter will be sold with a 30% discount”.
