Salzburg starts largest information offensive for civil protection
Now important for all households: stockpiling, personal responsibility and provision for all deeper ones. Info folder with checklist to all households from November 29th, 2022.
Salzburg – “Be prepared for emergencies”: This is the title of the folder for stocking up in crisis situations, which will be sent to all Salzburg households next week. Everyone receives information and practical tips in a compact, clear and understandable way, and even includes a shopping list for stocking up.
Prepare: best now!
“We want to inform and raise awareness that you should be prepared as a precaution and for crisis situations. Because it is precisely then that personal responsibility is the be-all and end-all. But there’s no point in only dealing with it when the time comes – then it’s too late,” explains Provincial Councilor Josef Schwaiger, Chairman of the Energy Control Advisory Board and President of the Salzburg Civil Protection Association.
Schwaiger: “A blackout can hit us.”
The folder of the civil protection association is about the preparation for crisis situations, currently the most talked about is a sudden blackout. “In any case, I think the probability of that is less than 50 percent, but higher than zero. And everything that is above zero, you have to prepare for that – we in politics and administration, but just as everyone in Salzburg. Panic would be exaggerated, but carelessness is definitely the wrong way to go,” says Schwaiger.
Kurcz: “Security through preparation.”
In any case, the head of the country’s civil protection, Markus Kurcz, sees great advantages in stockpiling. “I practically prepare myself so that I have everything I need at home for a week or two. But the psychological factor that I have already dealt with the topic is also important. Incidentally, the preparation also includes discussing how family reunification should work. For example: arrange meeting places with the children and think about the weakest people in the family,” explains Kurcz.
Compact information for all households
Protection from nuclear radiation WILL be included in the folder that is sent to all Salzburg households, as well as stocking up on food for two people for a week. He also receives information on self-help in the event of a power blackout and the meaning of the most important siren signals. In addition to the emergency numbers of the emergency services, there is also space for personal emergency numbers that can be written down by hand.
