England vs Sweden WC referee Björn Kuipers is a multi-millionaire
BJORN KUIPERS was the official referee for England’s World Cup match against Sweden at the 2018 World Cup, but that was not his only job.
The now-retired official, 49, was richer than some of the players on the pitch after it was revealed he is a multi-millionaire in the supermarket chain.
Kuipers owns a multi-million pound chain of supermarkets across the Netherlands called Jumbo.
Born in Oldenzaal in 1973, Kuipers studied business administration at university.
Kuiper’s personal fortune was estimated at £11.5m back in 2016 and he earns between £2-3m each year in profits alone.
It has been reported that he made enough money from his judging that he rarely pays himself from the supermarket’s profits.
But Kuiper is also the son of an amateur referee and wanted to follow in his father’s footsteps in football.
Kuipers was a FIFA-listed referee since 2006 and a UEFA Elite official since 2009.
The Dutchman is no stranger to the England team either as four years ago he was in charge when they lost to Italy in Brazil.
However, Kuiper refereed England’s Under-20 World Cup victory over Venezuela in 2017.
Kuipers officially retired in 2021.
